“The Overall Success Of Your Event Hinges On You Hiring The Right Entertainer”
I realise that you may not believe this.. but think about it for a minute. When was the last time you remembered the dinner that you had at a corporate event. Did the centerpiece make the event memorable and successful? It's unlikely your guests will be talking about the DJ or band for weeks to come.
My name is Glen Rhodes and for the past 15 years I have been helping event planners and organizations such as International Bank of China, Corporate Express, Suncorp Metway, The Port of Brisbane, Brisbane City Council, The Hotel & Motel Association, Twin Waters Resort, Video Pro and many others make their events unforgettable, successful and fun.
For the 1st time I am about to reveal …
The 7 Biggest Mistakes Event Planners Make When Hiring Entertainers
Mistake #1
Not Ensuring The Entertainer Has Public Liability Insurance.
It is unfortunate, but in these days of litigation you must consider the possibility of injury or damage caused by the performer and all the problems that could create for you. It is for your peace of mind that I have a $20M public liability insurance policy.Mistake #2
Not Asking For Testimonials
Testimonials are of the utmost importance when hiring an entertainer. In fact I have an arsenal that I use in my marketing. What clients say about performers is infinitely more important than what a performer says about him/herself. If you are unsure about quotes, ask to see the original letters. (you can catch a sample of my act at the Regatta Hotel in Toowong every Friday night, this is my 4th year there)
Mistake #3
Basing Your Decision Primarily On Price
Decide what your budget range is, check out a number of performers in that budget range, and choose the best person regardless of price. The best person is the one who will help you best fulfill your needs and help you to achieve your desired outcome
Mistake # 4
Not Getting 100% Commitment That The Show Is Squeaky Clean And User Friendly
Do you want to offend your guests? Don't take the chance, demand a clean show. I also see many entertainers belittle and victimise a guest to get a laugh. Remember just because one person thinks its funny does not mean everybody else will feel the same. Ask questions to ensure the show does not contain this kind of poor behavior
Mistake #5
Not Getting A Money Back Guarantee.
This is the ultimate test as to whether someone really believes in what they are offering.
Some performers will argue that people will take advantage of the offer, but in my experience during the past 15 years that I have offered this guarantee over 1000's of performances. No one has EVER requested their money back. If fact many times I get invited back year after year.
If the performer you are considering won't back up their show with a guarantee….watch out
Mistake #6
Assuming That Booking Through An Entertainment Agency Is The Best Way To Go
While it is true that making one call and letting them do all the work is easier than doing it yourself, there is no assurance you will be getting the performer that is perfect for your event. Before accepting performers from agencies ensure you speak directly to the performer to be certain they have the skills and knowledge to help make your event a success. Use the guide above to help.. and remember, generally agencies DO NOT supply public liability insurance for their performers.
Mistake #7
Not Reading Through Their Marketing Information.
You can tell a lot about a performer by looking at their marketing material. Do they offer guarantees, are they professional, the language they use, testimonials, what they are offering, past clients and when you are talking to them, are they vibrant, friendly, helpful, experienced, interested in your event, do they listen to you.
Well there you have it. If you are a seasoned event planner you may have already known some of these secrets. I hope these help to make your next event a raving success.
